Wild Virginia Supports Launch of New Virginia Safe Wildlife Corridors Collaborative Website
Wild Virginia is proud to share the launch of the redesigned Virginia Safe Wildlife Corridors Collaborative (VSWCC) website, designed to connect partners and highlight projects and programs, with a stronger focus on making key data easier to access and use. Through VSWCC, organizations across transportation, public safety, and wildlife conservation are working together to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions statewide.
“At its core, this work is built on collaboration,” said Trapper Fowler, Wild Virginia’s Habitat Connectivity Program Director. “In states like Colorado, we’ve seen how sustained coordination between agencies, nonprofits, and researchers can accelerate real progress. The more we can align efforts and make that information accessible, the faster we can move from planning to implementation.”
The updated site reflects a visual refresh and a more focused approach to how the Collaborative communicates its work. It’s designed to be more intuitive and action-driven, making it easier to navigate, find relevant resources, and see how projects connect across the state.
Additionally, the site connects visitors to Virginia’s Habitat Connectivity HUB, an interactive StoryMap that brings that work into focus. Developed in partnership with the Collaborative, the HUB combines data, mapping, and real-world projects into a single, accessible tool.
“The Virginia Safe Wildlife Corridors Collaborative has created a strong foundation for this work by bringing together partners from across disciplines, each contributing unique expertise and perspectives,” said Bridget Donaldson, Associate Principal Research Scientist with the Virginia Transportation Research Council at the Virginia Department of Transportation. “The updated website reflects the progress already underway and provides a resource to support ongoing coordination across partners.”
